Charging at home overnight beats hunting for public chargers — but what does a home EV charger actually cost to install? Here's the rundown, including the one thing that most affects the price.

For a standard home wall charger, expect somewhere around $1,200–$2,500 installed — the charger unit plus a dedicated, protected circuit. The big variable is the cable run from your switchboard to where the car parks, and whether your switchboard has spare capacity. A simple run next to the board is cheap; a long run across the house costs more.
An EV charger is a high-load circuit. Before anything, we check your switchboard and supply can handle it. If your board is old or full, you may need a small upgrade or load management (so the charger backs off when the house is busy) — which we'll price upfront so there are no surprises.
Most homes do well with a 7kW single-phase charger — a full overnight charge for almost any EV. Faster charging needs three-phase supply, which not every home has. We'll advise what suits your car, parking and budget rather than overselling.
A standard 3-pin socket charges very slowly and isn't designed for hours of continuous high load — it's a fire risk over time. A proper installed charger on a dedicated certified circuit is safer and far faster.
